Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, D-Ca. was banned from receiving holy communion by the Archbishop of San Francisco in a public statement released today.
“After numerous attempts to speak with Speaker Pelosi to help her understand the grave evil she is perpetrating, the scandal she is causing, and the danger to her own soul she is risking, I have determined that she is not to be admitted to Holy Communion.” Archbishop Salvatore J. Cordileone said on Twitter.

In 2018, Pelosi said that it would be a “severe blow” if communion were to be withheld from her.
Pelosi has called herself a “devout Catholic” in the past and pushed back against the Catholic Church’s position on abortion: “It isn’t about ‘What is your religious belief?’ It’s ‘What is the right of people to make their own decisions about the sizing and time — or if — they’re going to have a family,” she said in defense of her position on abortion.
The Archbishop was unambiguous in his condemnation of Pelosi, saying “A Catholic legislator who supports procured abortion, after knowing the teaching of the Church, commits a manifestly grave sin which is a cause of most serious scandal to others. Therefore, universal Church law provides that such persons ‘are not to be admitted to Holy Communion,'”
Cordileone insisted that his position was ‘pastoral’ and not ‘political’.
Pelosi owns three houses, but allegedly spends most of her time in her San Francisco property when Congress is not in session. Pelosi has confirmed that she has attended mass in San Franscisco, where she will no longer be able to receive communion due to her position on abortion.
President Biden, who also claims to be Catholic, has landed himself in hot water in the past over his comments on abortion. Earlier this month, Biden implied that abortion is a right given to people because they are ‘children of god’.
